General Rules and Discipline

  • No Bags, Files, Briefcases, Parcels, Hats or Umbrellas are to be brought into the Library. They may be kept on the shelves placed in the Cloakroom.
  • No valuable article or cash should be kept on the shelves placed in the Cloakroom. The Library will NOT hold itself responsible for any losses.
  • Silence is to be observed in the Library.
  • Smoking, the consumption of food and drink, and the use of matches or open lights are forbidden in all parts of the Library.
  • No reader may reserve a seat in the Library.
  • Readers may take any book they require from the shelves.
  • Books not accessible on the shelves should be requested for at the circulation desk.
  • Readers should not replace books on the shelves, but should leave them on a table.
  • When taking any books, and papers out of the library such materials must be produced for inspection by library Staff, if required.
  • Any users stealing or knowingly removing Library Materials will be liable to a suspension from borrowing. He/She is also liable to be reported to the Vice-Chancellor for disciplinary action.
  • The marking on and defacing of books are strictly forbidden. The users should report any marks or damage to books before they remove them from the issuing counter. In the absence of such reports, the books will be presumed to be in good condition when loaned and the borrower will be fined for any damage when the books are returned. The borrower will be liable to pay the full cost of the replacement of the book along with an additional 30% replacement charge and in addition any other fee that the Librarian thinks fits.
  • No material may be taken out of Sri Lanka without the permission of the Librarian.
  • No user shall misuse, damage or without permission remove any equipment of furniture belonging to the Library
  • Any disorderly of improper conduct or breach of the regulations will render the user concerned liable to suspension from the use of the Library.
  • Permission to use the Library is given on condition that regulations of the Library will be strictly observed.

Guidelines for using the Learning Commons

  • The Learning Commons is a space for learning and is open 24 X 7.
  • Any other activities other than learning are strictly prohibited inside Learning Commons.
  • Any unauthorized gatherings are strictly prohibited.
  • Maintain the section as a quiet study area. Be mindful of other users.
  • Food and drinks are not allowed, except for beverages with tight lids. Clean as you go.
  • Furniture must be used with care.
  • Do not move the furniture.
  • Turn off the lights and fans upon leaving.
  • The Health-Care Sciences Library reserves the right to cancel the use of the Learning Commons at any time.

Guidelines for the responsible use of the Group Learning Room

  • Group Learning Rooms are available for students to use for group discussion and collaborative working.
  • Other activities except learning are strictly prohibited.
  • Reservation should be made at the library counter before utilizing the Group Learning Room.
  • Furniture must be used with care.
  • Lights and fans must be turned off upon leaving.
  • Please be mindful of the noise in consideration of other users.
