Guidelines for the Preparation and Submission of Oration
Professor T Varagunam Memorial Oration of the Faculty of Health-Care Sciences, Eastern University, Sri Lanka is a formal scholarly presentation made by a senior academic based on his/her scholarly work. It provides a platform to disseminate scientific knowledge gained through accumulated research experience on a particular subject, supported by multiple publications based on original research findings.
The written submission should contain a substantial amount of original research work carried out over a period of time and reflect the authority of the academic in the subject area. Submissions based on a single research project or review articles are generally discouraged.
Delivering a scientific oration is a significant milestone in an academic career and all academics are encouraged to submit orations.
The script of the oration (not exceeding 3000 words) should be submitted with a cover letter and curriculum vitae. Applicants must provide copies of cited work if requested by the organizing committee. The time allocated for the oration is 45 minutes.
The oration should evolve around key message(s), selecting findings, results, and conclusions logically to support those messages. It should be written as a cohesive document with a continuous flow. Submissions combining isolated studies without cohesion will be rejected.
General Guidelines for the Oration
- Eligibility: Open to academics in Sri Lanka and overseas
- Length: Maximum 3000 words (excluding references)
- Font: Times New Roman, size 12, line spacing 1.5
- Margin: 2.5 cm on all sides
- Reference Style: APA
The orator must declare conflicts of interest, if any, and is responsible for the work presented. Submissions will be reviewed by two external experts appointed by the Faculty Board of FHCS, and their decision will be final.
The outcome of the submission will be communicated in writing after the review process.
