Mammography unit opening at Faculty of Health Care Sciences, Eastern University, Sri Lanka.
A new mammography unit was declared open on 03.06.2026 at the Faculty of Health Care Sciences, Eastern University, at a cost of 115 million rupees.
The opening ceremony of this mammography unit was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor P. Peratheepan, and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Care Sciences, Professor T. Sathaananthan, as the chief guests.
Distinguished guests who graced the occasion and added prestige included the Director of the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, Professor and Medical Doctor M. Umakanth (Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences at Eastern University), the Deans of the Faculties of Science, Arts and Culture, Agriculture, and Graduate Studies, the Registrar of Eastern University, as well as academic and non-academic staff members.
It is worth noting that even the cancer unit of the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital does not possess such an advanced machine.
This stands as an ultra-modern machine designed to screen for breast cancer, which is increasingly prevalent among women nowadays.
Indeed, this can be considered a massive boon bestowed upon the people of Batticaloa.
The credit for establishing this facility goes entirely to the Faculty of Health Care Sciences, Eastern University.
