Biography

Professor V. Thadchanamoorthy, an esteemed figure in the field of Paediatrics, holds a position at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health-Care Sciences, Eastern University Sri Lanka, while also serving as an Honorary Consultant Paediatrician at Teaching Hospital, Batticaloa. Born on 05/02/1970 in Karaitivu (E.P), she received her primary and secondary education at Ramakrishnan Mission Girls’ School Karaitivu and Vipulananda Central College, Karaitivu, respectively. Graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna with second class honors, she pursued postgraduate training both locally and internationally, earning MBBS (SL), MD (SL), and DCH (SL), FRCPCH (UK), FCP (USA) qualifications.

Joining the Faculty as a senior lecturer II in November 2017, she ascended to the rank of Professor in Paediatrics in 2022. Her academic pursuits extend beyond national borders, with her obtaining Fellowship in Royal College in Paediatrics and Child Health in the UK in 2023 and becoming a fellow member of the American College of Paediatrics since 2023. Actively engaged in academic governance, she has been a member of the Board of Study, Paediatrics, Postgraduate institute of Medicine, University of Colombo since 2018, a Council member of the College of Paediatricians, Sri Lanka, since 2021 and member of American Academy of Paediatrics, USA since 2023.

Dedicated to the advancement of her field, Professor Thadchanamoorthy has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in national and international journals, including two MCQ books and several monographs for medical students and the public. She is a sought-after speaker and resource person, having delivered guest lectures on various platforms. Her expertise spans dengue and neonatology, with a notable commitment to providing healthcare access to underserved communities through outreach clinics.

Beyond academia, she plays an active role in societal welfare, collaborating with organizations such as Save the Children and CERI to UNICEF, particularly in nutritional screening initiatives among children. During the Covid Pandemic, she contributed significantly to various programs, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to public health.
