Biography

Dr. K. Kartheepan is a Senior Lecturer (Gr. II) in Community Medicine at the Department of Primary Health Care, Faculty of Health-Care Sciences, Eastern University, Sri Lanka. He began his academic journey with a BVSc (Hons.) and later pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Statistics from the University of Peradeniya. His strong interest in public health and data analysis led him to obtain an MSc in Biostatistics and Epidemiology (First Class) from SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), India. Presently, he is pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology and Health Statistics at Kunming Medical University (KMMU), China.

Dr. Kartheepan's research interests span biostatistics, epidemiology, community medicine, and public health, with a particular focus on communicable and non-communicable diseases. He is keen on disease surveillance, predictive modeling, and statistical applications in health research, including the utilization of artificial intelligence for advanced data analysis. His work explores innovative approaches to leveraging AI and machine learning techniques to analyze health data, improve disease prevention strategies, and support evidence-based healthcare decision-making.

Dr. Kartheepan was the first academic staff member of the Department of Primary Health Care, joining as a Temporary Demonstrator on August 2, 2009. He has played a key role in teaching, curriculum development, and academic program enhancement, ensuring a strong foundation for medical education. His contributions have significantly shaped the department’s growth and the quality of education for future healthcare professionals.

Before joining Eastern University, Sri Lanka, he served as a Temporary Assistant Lecturer at the University of Peradeniya and worked as a veterinary surgeon with organizations such as the Association of Veterinarians for Humane Management of Animal Population and the World Society for the Protection of Animals. His diverse experience across veterinary medicine, biostatistics, epidemiology, and public health reflects his dedication to advancing both human and animal health.
